Department of Human Rights
The Human Rights Department of Vivekananda College in Thakurpukur was established in the year 2009 with the noble aim of promoting awareness, education, and advocacy for human rights issues within the college community and beyond. Founded on the principles of Swami Vivekananda, who emphasized the importance of social justice and equality, the department serves as a beacon for students and faculty alike, encouraging them to become agents of positive change in society.
Since its inception, the Human Rights Department has been instrumental in organizing various programs, seminars, workshops, and campaigns centred around human rights themes. These initiatives aim to educate students about fundamental human rights principles, foster critical thinking on contemporary human rights challenges, and inspire them to actively engage in efforts to address such issues.
One of the key objectives of the department is to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective advocates for human rights. Through interactive sessions, guest lectures by experts in the field, and experiential learning opportunities, students are encouraged to explore diverse perspectives on human rights issues and develop their own voices in support of justice and equality.
Moreover, the department actively engages in community outreach programs, collaborating with local organizations, and participating in grassroots initiatives aimed at promoting human rights awareness and advocating for marginalized communities. By bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world activism, the department strives to instil in students a sense of social responsibility and a commitment to making a positive impact on society.
