Department of Journalism and Mass Communication


The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is a center for learning and creativity that nurtures the talents and aspirations of budding media professionals since its inception. The aim of the department is to empower students to become catalysts for positive change in society, equipping them with the tools of communication, critical thinking, and ethical integrity.
The department offers theoretical as well as hands-on training in print journalism, mass communication, radio and television production, advertising, public relations, film studies, documentaries, communication research, new media, and photography, both within and outside of the course curriculum. The faculty members work hard to develop the students not only with technical expertise but also with the priceless abilities of effective communication and analytical observation, as a result the students come out with flying colors in their academic scores, and some secure positions in the undergraduate examination conducted by the University of Calcutta. The Department has produced notable students who have made a lasting influence in a number of academic and mass communication domains.
The department conducts workshops, International and national level seminars. Industry visits and skill enhancement programmes to keep the students updated and equipped with the changing trends in media and communication for both academics and professional fields. The department also manages and monitors the digital lab and Studio and which provides students with a platform to demonstrate their abilities in content Writing, Newspaper Designing, Audio-Visual Production, Film making, Radio Programme production and New Media productions. These initiatives serve to bridge the gap between academia and industry, preparing our students to thrive in both realms.
The department has been recognized for its work in documentary filmmaking on a variety of topics that relate to human experiences and social issues. One such documentary, "Sampadito," was featured at the 9th International Cinema on Social Communication at Nandan, earning recognition and has been enshrined in the archive of Chalachitra Satobarsho Bhavan, Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, West Bengal.
Under the guidance of the faculty, students undertake the production of two distinctive publications: the bi-lingual lab journals "VCকমিউনিকেটর" in tabloid format and "@mass.com" in magazine format. These publications serve not only as showcases for our students' talents but also as forums for intellectual exchange and exploration.
