Department of Physics
The Department of Physics is one of the pioneer departments of our college with a group of dynamic and dedicated faculties. The department was nursed by many eminent scholars, time to time, from the very initial stage. Presently the department has both UG (General and Honours) and PG courses under the affiliation of the University of Calcutta. Both courses run in the CBCS curriculum. From the academic session 2023-24 the four-year honours and Honours with Research course has been introduced in the CCF curriculum introduced by the University of Calcutta. The department has developed a commendable laboratory infrastructure for the benefit of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our college has a modern equipped central computer laboratory with 40 computers which develop keen interest among the students of Physics to conduct computer practical efficiently. The faculty of the department encourages the students to take part in examinations like JAM and JEST and also guides the students to choose research as their career in the future. Over the years, a large number of students have successfully qualified in the competitive examinations and joined IIT/IISER/ Bose Institute, etc. after graduation from this college. Our teachers are actively involved in research and publish quality research papers in many reputed scientific journals regularly which motivates the students towards research. Besides traditional classroom teaching, the faculties of the department are very keen to use the visual mode of PowerPoint presentations which makes the teaching-learning process more interactive and attractive among the students. Proper use of ICT elevated the glory of the department to a higher level. Besides regular classroom lectures department organizes seminars/webinars throughout the year to give opportunities to the students to interact with eminent scholars, scientists, and professors in this field.
