Department of Sanskrit

Department of Sanskrit in Vivekananda College Thakurpukur has been with it since its initial days, the institution is under the affiliation of The University of Calcutta. Honours and general courses are offered in our department under CBCS system as well as the NEP. Moreover, Add on course has started since 2021 on Research methodology and Brahmi Script along with the main course. Our department has a prolong history of traditional knowledge practice. Many veteran teachers had taught here. Students have established themselves in different fields of the society, boasting in being the alumni of this department. The strength of the department increased with time. Presently the intake capacity of the department is 45, abiding by the rules of the university, the selection of the students are done by the basis of their merit.
Every year department organizes Sanskrit Day celebration (on poornima of Sraban month), Day long Seminar, Educational Excursion, Sanskrit and Bengali drama acting, Fresher's welcome and Farewell programs. All of which are beautifully and successfully completed with the joint initiative of students and teachers. Believing in unity.
